Hue-MAN has established itself as more than a research partner. We are a catalyst for public health improvement, equity, and trust in health and science. By partnering with academic powerhouses, like Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota, our work combines academic rigor and deep community engagement. We focus on listening first and acting together, setting the standard for health equity work driven by community priorities.

Centering Community Strengths

Hue-MAN Partnership has shifted the focus of health research and interventions from deficit-focused to strength-based approaches using community-led frameworks.
Through studies like Shifting the Opioid Conversation From Stigma to Strengths (2022) and the Strengths+MyHealth project, Hue-MAN has helped highlight community resilience and assets rather than focusing solely on problems. Our leadership in creating safe spaces for honest dialogue has been essential in building partnerships that reflect lived experiences.
Improving Representation and Participation in Research

Hue-MAN strives to increase the representation of African American adults in research studies, addressing a longstanding gap.
In the Healthy Aging Through the Senior Years (HATS) Study (2025), we supported the recruitment of Black older adults for dementia and brain health research.
In environmental health studies like Biomonitoring PhIP in Hair (2025) and various cardiovascular research trials, Hue-MAN’s partnership helped include historically underrepresented people, leading to improved scientific evidence to benefit all people.
Advancing Fairness in Digital Health

Hue-MAN’s collaborations also reach into the realm of health informatics, artificial intelligence, and digital health.
Hue-MAN played a pivotal role in developing and refining a culturall-tailored mobile health (mHealth) intervention through the FAITH! App across numerous studies (2019-2024). This helped ensure this tech was both evidence based and culturally-relevant.
In Back to the Future: Achieving Health Equity Through Health Informatics and Digital Health (2020) and Incorporating a whole-person perspective in consumer-generated datat (2021) Hue-MAN is demonstrated our dedication to making digital health inclusive and accessible.
Addressing Social Determinants of Health

Hue-MAN’s work addresses social and community factors that shape health beyond the clinic.
Studies on COVID-19 vaccine acceptance (2023) and emergency preparedness with churches (2020, 2025) highlighted the importance of trust, communication, and community readiness. Research on resilience before and during COVID-19 also emphasized the value of social support and community strengths.
By focusing on these broader contexts, Hue-MAN helps empower communities to build health from within.
Building Community Capacity and Trust

Through initiatives such as community listening circles on stroke risk (2023), training "Stroke Champions," and engaging churches in COVID-19 preparedness and vaccine confidence efforts, Hue-MAN has prioritized building trust and empowering local leaders.
Our commitment to building enduring community infrastructure for health promotion is demonstrated by our partnerships with African American churches and support of the FAITH! Program's community steering committees.
